Abstract:Recommendation systems power engagement and monetization across feeds, ads, and short-video platforms, but translating the latest advances in Large Language Models into Recommendation Systems (RecSys) gains remains rare, particularly in advertising and production-scale real-world industry setups. Prior real-world LLM successes typically fall into three buckets: (a) generative retrieval that directly predicts the next items for candidate generation, (b) late-stage re-ranking that uses LLMs, and (c) auxiliary signal enrichment with LLMs. We introduce a complementary paradigm for ads: a fine-tuned open-source LLM used not as a ranker, but as an ads-specific ancillary predictor, forecasting likely advertisers from user profiles and histories. This LLM-driven advertiser prediction augments conventional candidate generation and provides informative priors to downstream ranking. Developed in a large-scale production advertising system, our approach produces substantial offline improvements and measurable online business impact, demonstrating that LLM world knowledge and predictive capacity can be efficiently harnessed. Beyond validating LLMs for ads applications, our results show that targeted ancillary predictions can unlock end-to-end gains across both retrieval and late-stage ranking, offering a practical path to LLM-enhanced recommendation at scale.
Abstract:Deep Learning has revolutionized machine learning, reaching unprecedented levels of accuracy, but at the cost of reduced interpretability. Especially in image processing systems, deep networks transform local pixel information into more global concepts in a highly obscured manner. Explainable AI methods for image processing try to shed light on this issue by highlighting the regions of the image that are important for the prediction task. Among these, Class Activation Mapping (CAM) and its gradient-based variants compute attributions based on the feature map and upscale them to the image resolution, assuming that feature map locations are influenced only by underlying regions. Perturbation-based methods, such as CorrRISE, on the other hand, try to provide pixel-level attributions by perturbing the input with fixed patches and checking how the output of the network changes. In this work, we propose Feature Activation Map Explanation (FAME), which combines both worlds by using network gradients to compute changes to the input image, manipulating it in a gradient-driven way rather than using fixed patches. We apply this technique on two common tasks, image classification and face recognition, and show that CAM's above-mentioned assumption does not hold for deeper networks. We qualitatively and quantitively show that FAME produces attribution maps that are competitive state-of-the-art systems. Our code is available: {\footnotesize https://github.com/AIML-IfI/fame.}
Abstract:Seedance 2.0 is a new native multi-modal audio-video generation model, officially released in China in early February 2026. Compared with its predecessors, Seedance 1.0 and 1.5 Pro, Seedance 2.0 adopts a unified, highly efficient, and large-scale architecture for multi-modal audio-video joint generation. This allows it to support four input modalities: text, image, audio, and video, by integrating one of the most comprehensive suites of multi-modal content reference and editing capabilities available in the industry to date. It delivers substantial, well-rounded improvements across all key sub-dimensions of video and audio generation. In both expert evaluations and public user tests, the model has demonstrated performance on par with the leading levels in the field. Seedance 2.0 supports direct generation of audio-video content with durations ranging from 4 to 15 seconds, with native output resolutions of 480p and 720p. For multi-modal inputs as reference, its current open platform supports up to 3 video clips, 9 images, and 3 audio clips. In addition, we provide Seedance 2.0 Fast version, an accelerated variant of Seedance 2.0 designed to boost generation speed for low-latency scenarios. Seedance 2.0 has delivered significant improvements to its foundational generation capabilities and multi-modal generation performance, bringing an enhanced creative experience for end users.
Abstract:Modern LLM reinforcement learning (RL) workloads require a highly efficient weight transfer system to scale training across heterogeneous computational resources. However, existing weight transfer approaches either fail to provide flexibility for dynamically scaling clusters or incur fundamental data movement overhead, resulting in poor performance. We introduce Reference-Oriented Storage (ROS), a new storage abstraction for RL weight transfer that exploits the highly replicated model weights in place. ROS presents the illusion that certain versions of the model weights are stored and can be fetched on demand. Underneath, ROS does not physically store any copies of the weights; instead, it tracks the workers that hold these weights on GPUs for inference. Upon request, ROS directly uses them to serve reads. We build TensorHub, a production-quality system that extends the ROS idea with topology-optimized transfer, strong consistency, and fault tolerance. Evaluation shows that TensorHub fully saturates RDMA bandwidth and adapts to three distinct rollout workloads with minimal engineering effort. Specifically, TensorHub reduces total GPU stall time by up to 6.7x for standalone rollouts, accelerates weight update for elastic rollout by 4.8x, and cuts cross-datacenter rollout stall time by 19x. TensorHub has been deployed in production to support cutting-edge RL training.
Abstract:Objectives: Full-waveform inversion (FWI) is a high-resolution geophysical imaging technique that reconstructs subsurface velocity models by iteratively minimizing the misfit between predicted and observed seismic data. However, under complex geological conditions, conventional FWI suffers from strong dependence on the initial model and tends to produce unstable results when the data are sparse or contaminated by noise. Methods: To address these limitations, this paper proposes a physics-driven generative adversarial network-based full-waveform inversion method. The proposed approach integrates the data-driven capability of deep neural networks with the physical constraints imposed by the seismic wave equation, and employs adversarial training through a discriminator to enhance the stability and robustness of the inversion results. Results: Experimental results on two representative benchmark geological models demonstrate that the proposed method can effectively recover complex velocity structures and achieves superior performance in terms of structural similarity (SSIM) and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Conclusions: This method provides a promising solution for alleviating the initial-model dependence in full-waveform inversion and shows strong potential for practical applications.
Abstract:Modern recommendation systems rank candidates by aggregating multiple behavioral signals through a value model. However, many commonly used signals are inherently affected by heterogeneous biases. For example, watch time naturally favors long-form content, loop rate favors short - form content, and comment probability favors videos over images. Such biases introduce two critical issues: (1) value model scores may be systematically misaligned with users' relative preferences - for instance, a seemingly low absolute like probability may represent exceptionally strong interest for a user who rarely engages; and (2) changes in value modeling rules can trigger abrupt and undesirable ecosystem shifts. In this work, we ask a fundamental question: can biased behavioral signals be systematically transformed into unbiased signals, under a user - defined notion of ``unbiasedness'', that are both personalized and adaptive? We propose a general, model-based debiasing (MBD) framework that addresses this challenge by augmenting it with distributional modeling. By conditioning on a flexible subset of features (partial feature set), we explicitly estimate the contextual mean and variance of the engagement distribution for arbitrary cohorts (e.g., specific video lengths or user regions) directly alongside the main prediction. This integration allows the framework to convert biased raw signals into unbiased representations, enabling the construction of higher-level, calibrated signals (such as percentiles or z - scores) suitable for the value model. Importantly, the definition of unbiasedness is flexible and controllable, allowing the system to adapt to different personalization objectives and modeling preferences. Crucially, this is implemented as a lightweight, built-in branch of the existing MTML ranking model, requiring no separate serving infrastructure.
Abstract:Recent advancements in image generation have achieved impressive results in producing high-quality images. However, existing image generation models still generally struggle with a spatial reasoning dilemma, lacking the ability to accurately capture fine-grained spatial relationships from the prompt and correctly generate scenes with structural integrity. To mitigate this dilemma, we propose RL-RIG, a Reinforcement Learning framework for Reflection-based Image Generation. Our architecture comprises four primary components: Diffuser, Checker, Actor, and Inverse Diffuser, following a Generate-Reflect-Edit paradigm to spark the Chain of Thought reasoning ability in image generation for addressing the dilemma. To equip the model with better intuition over generation trajectories, we further develop Reflection-GRPO to train the VLM Actor for edit prompts and the Image Editor for better image quality under a given prompt, respectively. Unlike traditional approaches that solely produce visually stunning yet structurally unreasonable content, our evaluation metrics prioritize spatial accuracy, utilizing Scene Graph IoU and employing a VLM-as-a-Judge strategy to assess the spatial consistency of generated images on LAION-SG dataset. Experimental results show that RL-RIG outperforms existing state-of-the-art open-source models by up to 11% in terms of controllable and precise spatial reasoning in image generation.
Abstract:Cybergrooming is an evolving threat to youth, necessitating proactive educational interventions. We propose StagePilot, an offline RL-based dialogue agent that simulates the stage-wise progression of grooming behaviors for prevention training. StagePilot selects conversational stages using a composite reward that balances user sentiment and goal proximity, with transitions constrained to adjacent stages for realism and interpretability. We evaluate StagePilot through LLM-based simulations, measuring stage completion, dialogue efficiency, and emotional engagement. Results show that StagePilot generates realistic and coherent conversations aligned with grooming dynamics. Among tested methods, the IQL+AWAC agent achieves the best balance between strategic planning and emotional coherence, reaching the final stage up to 43% more frequently than baselines while maintaining over 70% sentiment alignment.
Abstract:Multimodal sequential recommendation (MSR) leverages diverse item modalities to improve recommendation accuracy, while achieving effective and adaptive fusion remains challenging. Existing MSR models often overlook synergistic information that emerges only through modality combinations. Moreover, they typically assume a fixed importance for different modality interactions across users. To address these limitations, we propose \textbf{P}ersonalized \textbf{R}ecommend-ation via \textbf{I}nformation \textbf{S}ynergy \textbf{M}odule (PRISM), a plug-and-play framework for sequential recommendation (SR). PRISM explicitly decomposes multimodal information into unique, redundant, and synergistic components through an Interaction Expert Layer and dynamically weights them via an Adaptive Fusion Layer guided by user preferences. This information-theoretic design enables fine-grained disentanglement and personalized fusion of multimodal signals. Extensive experiments on four datasets and three SR backbones demonstrate its effectiveness and versatility. The code is available at https://github.com/YutongLi2024/PRISM.
Abstract:Real-world reinforcement learning (RL) offers a promising approach to training precise and dexterous robotic manipulation policies in an online manner, enabling robots to learn from their own experience while gradually reducing human labor. However, prior real-world RL methods often assume that human interventions are optimal across the entire state space, overlooking the fact that even expert operators cannot consistently provide optimal actions in all states or completely avoid mistakes. Indiscriminately mixing intervention data with robot-collected data inherits the sample inefficiency of RL, while purely imitating intervention data can ultimately degrade the final performance achievable by RL. The question of how to leverage potentially suboptimal and noisy human interventions to accelerate learning without being constrained by them thus remains open. To address this challenge, we propose SiLRI, a state-wise Lagrangian reinforcement learning algorithm for real-world robot manipulation tasks. Specifically, we formulate the online manipulation problem as a constrained RL optimization, where the constraint bound at each state is determined by the uncertainty of human interventions. We then introduce a state-wise Lagrange multiplier and solve the problem via a min-max optimization, jointly optimizing the policy and the Lagrange multiplier to reach a saddle point. Built upon a human-as-copilot teleoperation system, our algorithm is evaluated through real-world experiments on diverse manipulation tasks. Experimental results show that SiLRI effectively exploits human suboptimal interventions, reducing the time required to reach a 90% success rate by at least 50% compared with the state-of-the-art RL method HIL-SERL, and achieving a 100% success rate on long-horizon manipulation tasks where other RL methods struggle to succeed.
